নাইজেরিয়ার ওনিসা এলাকার কয়েক মাইল উত্তর-পূর্বে ওগিডি-তে চিনুয়া আচেবে জন্মেছিলেন ১৯৩০ সালের ১৬ নভেম্বর তারিখে। তার বাবা ছিলেন গীর্জার দূত; তার মানে সপ্তাহের দিনগুলােতে তিনি মিশন স্কুলে পড়াতেন, আর একই সঙ্গে গ্রামের গীর্জার দায়িত্ব পালন করতেন। আচেবে-পরিবারের ছেলেমেয়েরাও মিশন স্কুলে পড়তাে, সেখান থেকেই চিনুয়া ভর্তি হয়েছিলেন উমুয়াহিয়া সরকারী কলেজে, ১৯৪৪ সালে। ১৯৪৮ সালে চিনুয়া ঢােকেন ইবাদানের বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়কলেজে, কলা-স্নাতক হন ১৯৫৩ সালে। তার পরে তিনি যােগ দেন নাইজেরীয় বেতার-ব্যবস্থায়, কথিকা- প্রস্তুতকারী হিসেবে। সেখানেই তিনি বেতারের বহির্দেশীয় প্রচারের পরিচালক হন, চলে যান লাগােসে। ১৯৫৮-১৯৬৬ সময়কালে চিনুয়া ৪টি উপন্যাস লেখেনথিংস ফল এ্যাপার্ট (১৯৫৮),নাে লঙার এ্যাট ইজ(১৯৬০), অ্যারৌ অব গড (১৯৬৪) এবং অম্যান অব দ’ পিপল (১৯৬৬)। ১৯৬৬ সালেই প্রকাশিত হয় চিকি আর নদী। পরবর্তীতে নানা ধারায় আরাে অনেক লেখেন চিনুয়া আচেবে। শুধু নাইজেরিয়ার নয়, গােটা আফ্রিকার আধুনিক সাহিত্য-সৃষ্টির ধারাটিকেই গড়ে তােলেন তিনি তাঁর লেখালেখির মধ্য দিয়ে। ২০১৩ সালের ২১ মার্চ প্রয়াত হন চিনুয়া আচেবে।
