The Story of Bones and other Poems is a book of verse by Kamal Chowdhury, a poet of the 70s. The poems in this book have been selected from poems published by him during the last three decades. Kamal Chowdhury as a poet evinces a few characteristics that make him stand out among him contemporaries. He builds on the familiar, but in the process the familiar is made to disintegrate and yield to the claims of the new associations he creates for the reader to discover their new moorings in an uncharted territory of emotive language. Kamal Projects a persona, the first person who is elusive and difficult to pin down. While in his early poems the I is fairly easily recognisable as the poet himself, in his later, particularly longer poems, the projected persona takes a myriad of veiled identities. This careful craftsmanship and skilful manipulation of the `speaker' take on a broader, more ambivalent attitude in his longer poems.

Kamal has attained an exalted height. He has still a long way to go. This translation, Hopefully, will help him find a global audience.

জন্ম কুমিল্লা জেলার চৌদ্দগ্রাম উপজেলার বিজয়করা গ্রামে। পিতা মরহুম আহমদ হোসেন চৌধুরী ও মাতা বেগম তাহেরা হোসেন। পিতামাতার ছয় সন্তানের মধ্যে দ্বিতীয়। স্ত্রী ইফফাত আরা কামাল। দুই সন্তান প্রমিত ও প্রতীতি। পেশা সরকারি চাকরি। ১৯৭৩ সালে নারায়ণগঞ্জের দোগনাইল হাইস্কুল থেকে এসএসসি, ১৯৭৫ সালে ঢাকা কলেজ থেকে এইচএসসি পাস করেন। ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে স্নাতকোত্তর পাস করেন লাভ করেন সমাজবিজ্ঞানে, তারপর নৃবিজ্ঞানে পিএইচ.ডি। পিএইচ.ডি গবেষণা করেছেন গারো জনগোষ্ঠীর মাতৃসূত্রীয় আবাসপ্রথা নিয়ে। মধ্যসত্তরে তারুণ্যদীপ্ত ও দ্রোহী কবিতা নিয়ে কাব্যজগতে প্রবেশ। প্রকাশিত গ্রন্থ : কবিতা-মিছিলের সমান বয়সী (১৯৮১), টানাপোড়েনের দিন (১৯৯১), এই পথ এই কোলাহল (১৯৯৩), এসেছি নিজের ভোরে (১৯৯৫), এই মেঘ বিদ্যুতে ভরা (১৯৯৭), নির্বাচিত কবিতা (১৯৯৮), ধূলি ও সাগর দৃশ্য (২০০০), রোদ বৃষ্টি অন্ত্যমিল (২০০৩), হে মাটি পৃথিবীপুত্র (২০০৬), প্রেমের কবিতা (২০০৮), কবিতাসংগ্রহ (২০০৯), পান্থশালার ঘোড়া (২০১০)। কিশোর কবিতা-আপন মনের পাঠশালাতে (২০০৭)। পুরস্কার : রুদ্র পদক ২০০০, সৌহার্দ্য সম্মাননা, পশ্চিবঙ্গ ২০০৩, কবিতালাপ সাহিত্য পুরস্কার ২০০৪, জীবনানন্দ পুরস্কার ২০০৮, সিটি-আনন্দ আলো পুরস্কার ২০১০। সম্পাদনা : ড. আলী রীয়াজের সঙ্গে যৌথভাবে সম্পাদনা করেছেন সত্তর দশকের কবিদের কবিতা (১৯৯৫)।
