Product Specification & Summary

"Operation Jackpot" Writing of the first flap of the book:
Operation Jackpot is a true, untold story of Naval Commando Operations in the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971 that sabotaged Pakistan Navy and other ships in Chittagong, Chandpur, Mongla and Narayanganj. This book accounts for only Chittagong port operation. The naval commando operation that was code-named as 'Operation Jackpot' was precipitated by events in Toulon, a coastal city of southern France where 11 East Pakistan naval submarine crewmen were receiving training in a Pakistani submarine. One commissioned officer and 8 crewmen decided to take control of the submarine and to fight against Pakistan. Their plan was disclosed, however, causing them to flee from death threats made by Pakistani intelligence. Out of the 9 crewmen, one was killed by Pakistani Intelligence, but the others managed to arrive in India with the help of Indian Embassy in Geneva, Switzerland. Gradually they developed the naval commando groups that played significant roles in the liberation war of Bangladesh. Sezan Mahmud, as a young author wrote the very first book on this true, untold story, for which he researched three years in remote villages in Bangladesh and West Bengal province of India. The book was published in Bengali in 1991. To let our new generations, in home and abroad, know the glory of patriotic sacrifices of our forefathers this book is translated into English by eminent BBC journalist Sagar Chaudhury.
