Bengal, before the colonial ruling, was known as the 'Bread Basket of India'! Not only was that, this Bangladesh, known as Bengal was one of the richest countries of the world. Through out massive plundering and destructive policy formulation, Bangladesh has lost all its glory several times. The effects of this mass destruction fall upon directly to the nature, environment, women, poor and the vulnerable.

The book has attempted to connect the two mostly affected groups-Women and Social Forest, together, to explore how much they help each other to fight against poverty.
Several research works and writings can be found on poverty alleviation or reduction through forestry. But in the country, works are very few to allocate data on the forestry's role to connect women's poverty issue directly. Besides, most of the women from rural areas then urban areas remain connected with any kind of forestry of agricultural activities of the country. Thus, the research work of the book is to examine the role of social forestry in reducing poverty of women of the rural areas of the country.

The work, is expected to help the policy makers, gender specialists, Forest Department, foreign investors and researchers, scholars and the future researchers of the country to think ahead to mend the `Basket' as it was, for which our future generation is waiting for.
