Product Specification & Summary

Atonement begins in the summer of 1934 in the Tallis family’s country estate. One of the main characters of the novel, Briony Tallis, is introduced to the readers at this point. Briony is a young girl who is thirteen years of age. Briony is shown to be witnessing her sister swimming in the family fountain after undressing. This young girl also notices the fact that Robbie Turner, who is Cecilia’s childhood friend, is watching her sister swim.

The readers are informed that Robbie and Cecilia have both returned from Cambridge a short while ago. The series of events that take place after this leave the readers captivated till the end of the book. Cecilia and Robbie ultimately cross their limits with each other by the end of the day, leaving Briony as an eyewitness to things she should never have seen.

What follows in Atonement is a rather unfortunate turn of events, which leave Briony seeking atonement throughout her life. The author has been highly successful in creating a storyline that is truly loaded with suspense, drama, and romance.
