Modern Law of Insurance is considered an authority on the subject of insurance and has been the key text for students of law and professionals for many years now. The present edition of Modern Law of Insurance is being brought out in a timely fashion taking into account the fact that the Insurance sector has undergone a major change in the last couple of years. Earlier, both Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) and General Insurance Corporation (GIC) enjoyed the monopoly in the insurance sector, but all the regulatory powers of the Controller of Insurance and the Central Government have been transferred to Insurance Regulatory Development Authority (IRDA) through the IRDA Act 1999 with a view to protect the interests of policy holders and to improve the health of the insurance business. With this, the insurance sector has been thrown open to private entities and both LIC and GIC have to compete with private players.
