Internationally renowned Paris-based-Bangladeshi painter Shahabuddin Ahmed was born on September 11, 1950 and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dhaka. He obtained scholarship to study at Ecole des beaux-arts de Paris. He was one of the fifty master painter of contemporary arts, and had been bestowed with an award at the Olympiad of Arts, Barcelona, in 1992. He has been awarded the French title "Chevalier De L'ordre Des Arts Et Des Lettres" (Knight in the Order of Fine Arts and Humanities) by the Ministry for Cultural Affairs and Communication of France in 2014. This award is given to artists for their outstanding works in the literary or artistic fields or for their contribution to culture in France or in the world. He also received the Shadhinata Padak- the highest state award given by the government of Bangladesh in 2000 and Bangla Academy Award in 1974. His paintings delve into contemporary life and time. He is an optimist and this is evidently expressed in his paintings. This optimism was firmly embedded in Shahabuddin when he took part in the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971. Bold strokes, vibrant colour and figurative expressions are the hallmark of freedom fighter Shahabuddin's works. The conscience and the indomitable spirit of the Liberation War have frequently appeared as prominent connotations on his canvas. He has the capability to overcome constraints of time and space. In their dynamism his paintings depict fearless human figures that cut through the difficulties of life, which provide one the reason to live. The vibrancy and force of his brushwork highlight this aspect. Above all, his compositions are unmistakably musical and rhythmic.

প্রথিতযশা চিত্রশিল্পী ও মুক্তিযােদ্ধা। প্যারিসপ্রবাসী এই শিল্পীর খ্যাতি সারা ইউরােপজুড়ে। তার পৈতৃক নিবাস নরসিংদী জেলার রায়পুরা উপজেলার আলগী গ্রামে। জন্মস্থান ঢাকা। ১৯৫০ সালের ১১ সেপ্টেম্বর। তার জন্ম। বিশিষ্ট রাজনীতিবিদ ও মুক্তিযােদ্ধা তায়েবউদ্দীন। আহমেদ তার বাবা। মা সাইফুন নেসা। স্বনামধন্য। কথাসাহিত্যিক ও শিল্পসমালােচক আনা ইসলাম তাঁর স্ত্রী।। দুই মেয়ে চিত্র ও চর্যা।। ১৯৭৩ সালে তিনি ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের চারুকলা অনুষদ থেকে বিএফএ ডিগ্রি অর্জন করেন। ওই সময় তিনি। ছাত্রসংসদের সহ-সভাপতি ছিলেন। পরবর্তী সময়ে বৃত্তি লাভ করে ফ্রান্সের ইকোল দে বােজার্ট চারু ও কারুকলা। মহাবিদ্যালয়ে চারুকলা বিষয়ে পড়াশােনা করেন ১৯৭৪-১৯৮১ সাল পর্যন্ত। তখন থেকে প্যারিসেই বসবাস করছেন। শাহাবুদ্দিনের ছবির বৈশিষ্ট্য হলাে—গতি। বাংলাদেশের মুক্তিযুদ্ধ বারবার তার ক্যানভাসে ফিরে আসে। দেশবিদেশের অনেক গ্যালারিতে বহুবার তাঁর একক চিত্রপ্রদর্শনী অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছে। পেয়েছেন অসংখ্য পুরস্কার। ১৯৭১ সালে বাংলাদেশের মহান মুক্তিযুদ্ধে অংশগ্রহণ করেছেন তিনি। গেরিলা বাহিনীর ১৭ নং প্লাটুনের কমান্ডার ছিলেন। সম্মুখযুদ্ধেও অংশগ্রহণ করেছেন। ১৯৯২ সালে মাস্টার পেইন্টার্স অব কনটেম্পােরারি আর্টসের পঞ্চাশজনের একজন হিসেবে বার্সেলােনায় অলিম্পিয়াড অব আর্ট পদকে ভূষিত হন। ২০০০ সালে। বাংলাদেশ সরকার তাঁকে স্বাধীনতা পুরস্কারে ভূষিত। করে। এছাড়া ফ্রান্সের সর্বোচ্চ বেসামরিক সম্মাননা ‘নাইট’ উপাধি পেয়েছেন ২০১৪ সালে।।
