জন্মঃ আগস্ট ১৩, ১৯২৬ - মৃত্যুঃ নভেম্বর ২৫, ২০১৬, যিনি ফিদেল কাস্ত্রো বা শুধুই কাস্ত্রো নামে পরিচিত; তিনি একজন কিউবান রাজনৈতিক নেতা ও সমাজতন্ত্রী বিপ্লবী। কিউবা বিপ্লবের প্রধান নেতা ফিদেল ফেব্রুয়ারি ১৯৫৯ থেকে ডিসেম্বর ১৯৭৬ পর্যন্ত কিউবার প্রধানমন্ত্রী ছিলেন, এরপর ফেব্রুয়ারি ২০০৮-এ তাঁর স্বেচ্ছায় সরে যাওয়ার আগ পর্যন্ত কিউবার মন্ত্রী পরিষদের প্রেসিডেন্ট ছিলেন। তিনি ১৯৬১ সালে কিউবা কমিউনিস্ট দলের প্রতিষ্ঠালগ্ন থেকে মৃত্যুর আগ পর্যন্ত প্রধান হিসেবে ছিলেন। এর আগে শারীরিক অসুস্থতার কারণে ২০০৮ সালে তিনি তাঁর দায়িত্ব ভাই রাউল কাস্ত্রোর কাছে অর্পণ করেছিলেন। রাউল বর্তমানে কমিউনিস্ট পার্টির সহকারী প্রধান এবং মন্ত্রী পরিষদের প্রধান হিসেবে আছেন। এর আগে তিনি ১৯৫৯-২০০৮ পর্যন্ত ফিদেলের মন্ত্রী সভায় প্রতিরক্ষা মন্ত্রী হিসেবে কাজ করেছেন। হাভানা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে আইন বিষয়ে পড়ার সময়, ফিদেল কাস্ত্রো তাঁর রাজনৈতিক জীবন শুরু করেন। এরপর কিউবার রাজনীতিতে একজন বিখ্যাত ব্যক্তিতে পরিণত হন। তাঁর রাজনৈতিক জীবন শুরু হয় প্রেসিডেন্ট ফালজেন্সিও বাতিস্তা এবং কিউবার উপর মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের রাজনৈতিক প্রভাবের বিরুদ্ধে জাতীয়তাবাদী সমালোচনা নিবন্ধ লিখে। তিনি এ ব্যাপারে আগ্রহী হয়ে ওঠেন এবং কর্তৃপক্ষের দৃষ্টি আকর্ষণ করতে সমর্থ হন। অবশেষে তিনি ১৯৫৩ সালে মনকাডা ব্যারাকে একটি ব্যর্থ আক্রমণ করেন, এবং তারপর কারারুদ্ধ হন ও পরে ছাড়া পান। এরপর তিনি বাতিস্তার সরকার উৎখাতের জন্য সংগঠিত হওয়ার জন্য মেক্সিকো যান। ফিরে এসে ১৯৫৬’র ডিসেম্বরে সরকার উৎখাতে নামেন। পরবর্তীকালে কাস্ত্রো কিউবান বিপ্লবের মাধ্যমে ক্ষমতায় আসেন যা যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের মদদে চলা বাতিস্তার স্বৈরশাসনকে ক্ষমতাচ্যুত করে। এর কিছুদিন পরই পর কাস্ত্রো কিউবার প্রধানমন্ত্রী হন। ১৯৬৫ সালে তিনি কিউবা কমিউনিস্ট পার্টির প্রধান হন এবং কিউবাকে একদলীয় সমজতান্ত্রিক দেশ হিসেবে রূপ দেন। ১৯৭৬ সালে তিনি রাষ্ট্র ও মন্ত্রী পরিষদের প্রেসিডেন্ট হিসেবে দায়িত্ব নেন। তিনি কিউবার সর্বোচ্চ সামরিক পদ Comandante en Jefe ("Commander in Chief") এও আসীন হন। ২০১৬ সালের ২৫ই নভেম্বর এই বিপ্লবী হাভানায় মৃত্যুবরণ করেন।
