মামুন কবীর

Mamun Kabir was born in Daulatpur Upazila of Manikganj District, Bangladesh. Over the years, he has been actively engaged in issues related to climate justice, river conservation, environmental justice, and the struggles of char land, barind, haor, and coastal communities of Bangladesh affected by climate change and environmental degradation.


He is actively involved in movements to protect Bangladesh’s rivers, wetlands, coastal ecosystems, and biodiversity. He has been playing a significant role in raising public awareness against river encroachment and pollution, opposing environmentally destructive development projects, and advocating for a just transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy.


Mamun Kabir completed both his Bachelor’s (Honours) and Master’s degrees in History from Jahangirnagar University. He also obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Development Planning from the National Academy for Planning and Development (NAPD).

With nearly two decades of professional experience, he has worked with various national and international development organizations. He has also been associated with two environmental citizens’ platforms “Dhoritri Rokhhay Amra (DHORA)” and “National Committee for Protecting Life, Nature, Ecology and Environment” since its founding.


His Bengali and English articles and opinion pieces are regularly published in leading national newspapers and online media platforms in Bangladesh. Breathing Bangladesh is his first English essay collection. Prior to this, he published two Bengali essay collections and three poetry books.
